Vikings rookie Stephen Walwyn was tough on Yankees hitters in three innings of work. The Vikings roughed up the league-leading Yankees, 18-8, Sunday afternoon at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park in the Raphael Jackson AA Baseball League.

It was the second loss of the weekend for the Yankees, who with the playoffs about to start, have been resting a few key players in preparation for what they hope to be a championship run.

The Vikings, on the other hand, looked good, especially offensively, and showed that they are ready to make some noise in the playoffs.

Batting first, the Vikings got an RBI single from Tony Cruz and Jahmoy Williams and a pass ball to take an early 3-0 lead.

An unearned run in the top of the second extended the lead to 4-0, but the Yankees were able to get one back in their half of the inning trail 4-1 after two.

An eight-run third inning, on a two-run single by Cruz, RBI singles by Rodney Raphael and Ephraim Patrick, a bases-loaded walk by drawn by Dennis Brow and three pass balls, gave the Vikings an insurmountable 11-run lead at 12-1.

The Vikings would add six more runs in the time-shortened six-inning contest, while the Yankees were able to get seven in garbage time for a final score of 18-8.

Rookie pitcher Stephen Walwyn got the win for the Vikings, while Ian Lewis got the loss for the Yankees.

Top batters for the winners were Cruz (2 for 2 with three RBIs), Williams (2 for 2 with one RBI) and Ramirez was (2 for 3 with two RBIs). For the Yankees, Shakeel Newton was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Mackeel Rogers was 1 for 2, and Dwayne Harvey was 1 for 3.
