Special Education Hosts Summer Institute for District Paraprofessionals

The St. Thomas-St. John District’s Division of Special Education will host a Summer Institute for all teachers and classroom paraprofessionals titled, “Empowering Educators as We Embrace Educational Success” from Aug. 22- 26. The purpose of this conference is to provide its participants with knowledge, awareness and reinforcement to empower them to serve all children, especially children with disabilities, most effectively. The deadline to register is Friday, July 29.
Topics for the series of presentations include: Co-Teaching Modeling/Application Methods and Practices; Overview of Seclusion and Restraint Best Practices; Writing Legally Complaint IEPs; Developing Effective Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs); Effective Methods used with Students with Autism; Why? Manifestation Determination; Roles of Teachers and Paraprofessionals; Universal Design; Differentiation and Curricular Adaptations; Collaboration: Teambuilding, Active Listening and Problem-Solving; Seclusion and Restraint Best Practices; RTI and Transition from School to Post School Best Practices.
