St. Thomas Police Charge Three with Inciting a Riot

Two men and a woman who police say were brawling were arrested Monday and charged with assault and inciting a riot, the V.I. Police Department reported Wednesday.

St. Thomas police arrested Arnaldo Rosario, 20, of Estate Savan; Kelvin Bazan, 22, of Hospital Ground; and Nancy De La Cruz Mejia, 25, of Estate Thomas. The suspects, who were all arrested shortly before 4 a.m. Monday, were involved in a fight, which resulted in bodily injuries for two of the suspects.

According to the police report, officers patrolling Crown Mountain Road intersection heard a loud argument in process and traveled to the scene. They found several suspects pushing each other. The officers intervened and one of the suspects, later identified as Mejia, broke a bottle and stabbed Bazan before officers restrained the suspects.

Mejia and Rosario, who were charged with third-degree assault, disturbance of the peace and inciting a riot, were injured and transported to the Roy Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment and released. Their bail was set at $26,000 each.

Bazan was charged with aggravated assault and battery, disturbance of the peace and inciting a riot; his bail was set at $1,100.

Unable to post bail, the suspects were remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
