UVI Accepting Applications for Free Summer Robotics Program Through June 6

The St. Croix Campus of the University of the Virgin Islands is now accepting applications to its free Summer Robotics Program in its quest to encourage greater interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
During this program, students from grades 7 – 10 will learn to build robots and with the use of computers program them to do exciting things just as scientists and engineers do. The summer robotics program will be in session from June 20 – July 1 and will provide students hands-on, intellectually stimulating activities.
Sessions will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. each day with lunch served daily.
Since the inception of the program in 2005, the St. Croix Foundation and its corporate partners had provided much of the funding for the STEM program. However, since 2008, funding has been provided by Marmarus Management Company LLC, with additional contributions coming from UVI. The foundation continues to play a supportive role, identifying donors and funding ancillary activities for the Program.
Applications are available at the UVI Library and the St. Croix Foundation in Gallows Bay. The deadline is June 6, so students and parents are urged to apply soon as space is very limited. For further information, contact Dr. Velma Tyson at 692-4157 or Dr. Michelle Peterson at 778-1620, ext. 3141.
