WMA Sewer Project to Affect Tutu Traffic

A portion of the Weymouth-Rhymer Highway—around the area of the Lutheran Church and O’Henry’s Cleaners in Estate Tutu—will be reduced to one lane starting Wednesday so the roadway can be resurfaced.

Beginning the following Wednesday, May 9, and running until May 11, the roadway will once again be down to one lane as the last part of the restoration project—the cleaning of the lines—is completed, according to a release from the V.I. Waste Management Authority, which is spearheading the effort.

Final cleanup and landscaping of the area is scheduled for the week of May 16.

Residents are urged to use alternate routes during these times, and those who choose to drive through the area are being asked to slow down and follow directions from flagmen and police officers directing traffic.

The months-long project has included the installation of a new gravity sewer system that is currently being constructed along the highway. The system is meant to eliminate the Weymouth-Rhymer pump station adjacent to O’Henry’s Cleaners, and provide sewer line services to new customers in the area.
