Police Make Arrest in Estate Profit Murder

Wilson D. Fuentes, a 28-year-old resident of Estate Clifton Hill, was arrested early Thursday and charged with a homicide that occurred six hours earlier.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau on St. Croix arrested Fuentes in the the shooting death of 30-year-old Marko Antonio Rivera of Estate Profit, which occurred at about 8:45 p.m. in the vicinity of Estate Profit Hills.

Police said Rivera was driving his Ford Ranger on the road near the Harvey housing community when he was shot several times in his upper body by a suspect police later identified as Fuentes. A manhunt began for the suspect after police gathered evidence at the scene and interviewed witnesses.

Fuentes was charged with first-degree murder and held on a $1 million bail and was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.

Detectives said the shooting was not a random act. Their preliminary investigation revealed that the two men were acquainted with each other and had a longstanding feud that may have led to the killing, police said.
