Students from Eight Schools Compete in 2011 Territorial MATHCOUNTS

Eightschools will compete in the Territorial MATHCOUNTS Competition at 9 a.m. on Thursday March 17, at the Palms Court Harbourview Hotel. At all levels, students compete as a team and individually in written and fast-paced oral matches in the subjects of algebra, probability, statistics and geometry. The four mathletes with the highest individual scores will advance to the National MATHCOUNTS finals, to be held in Washington, D.C. on May 6. The coach of the top team will be the coach of the Virgin Islands team and the mathletes will compete for a seat on the team.
"We are quite delighted about the cross-section of schools represented in this year’s state competition – four public schools, three private schools, and one parochial school,” said St. Thomas-St. John Mathematics CoordinatorLudence Romney. “The students have worked hard and persistently in preparing to represent their schools and districts in this worthwhile event. It is our hope that the community will come out and support the students, garnering as much enthusiasm and recognition for academic achievement as it does for other areas of achievement."
Participating schools include:
St. Thomas – St. John Addelita Cancryn Junior High School, Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School, Antilles School andV.I. Montessori International Academy
St. Croix St. Croix Country Day, Elena Christian Junior High School, Arthur Richards Junior High School and Good Hope School
