Annual Regional Science Bowl Scheduled for March 6

The Virgin Islands Regional Science Bowl competition for high school students in grades 9-12 will take place at 1 p.m. (preliminary rounds) on Sunday, March 6, at the Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School, according to event coordinator, Gerald Walters. This year the event celebrates its fourteenth year with the theme, “Surfing into Science.” Competing teams of four students and an alternate are quizzed on biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, earth science, general science and mathematics. The top two teams will compete in the championship rounds starting at 6 p.m. The championship rounds are immediately followed by an awards ceremony.

Schools represented this year include Charlotte Amalie and Ivanna Eudora Kean High Schools, St. Croix Central High School, St. Croix Educational Complex and St. Croix Country Day.
The championship team from the Virgin Islands will compete at theNational Science Bowlin Chevy Chase, Maryland from April 28 through May 4. The V.I. Regional Science Bowl Competition is sponsored by the V.I. Water and Power Authority and the V.I. Department of Education.
