Caribs Tame Tigers, 82-39, in Varsity Hoops

Caribs Reno Motta goes over a Tigers defender for two of his team-high 10 points. The Central High School Caribs move their record to 2-0 in varsity high school basketball after easily dispatching the Country Day Tigers 82-39 Wednesday afternoon at Country Day.

Fourteen of the 15-man Caribs roster got into the scoring column as Central’s coach Donald Bough substituted freely against the young Tigers.

Led by seven points from Jose Bultes, the Caribs outscored the Tigers 18-4 in the opening quarter and the rout was on.

The Tigers fared somewhat better in the second period but were still outscored 16-12, and the Caribs went into the locker room at the half ahead by 18 at 34-16.

After a quiet third quarter, the Caribs erupted for 34 in the fourth on their way to the 43-point victory.

Reno Motta was top scorer for the Caribs in their balanced attack with 10 points. Kevin Hughes netted nine points, while four teammates dropped in eight apiece. The Tigers got 10 points apiece from Eliji and Elijah Mondesir but little else from the rest of the squad against a tenacious Caribs defense.
