Charlotte Amalie Opens Season With Four Wins

Charlotte Amalie High School opened the 2011 basketball season with a sweep on Saturday. The varsity boys and girls teams defeated Antilles while the junior varsity teams made quick work of Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School. Behind 22 points from Merwin Potter, the Hawks destroyed Antilles Hurricanes, 64-40. Shanoi Miller chipped in with 11 points and Cursim Hansen added eight points. Dornell Weaver led Antilles with 15 points in the loss. Anamuko Utibe and Ageyi Gregory finished in double figures for the Hurricanes with 12 and 10 respectively.
The Lady Hawks outlasted the Lady ‘Canes, 43-38. CAHS used a late fourth period spurt to put the game away. Junior guard Kelssy Trass came alive to lead three Hawks in double digits with 13. Jerusha Corbett and Te’Andra Richardson both chipped in with 12 and 10 points. Cha’les Martin led Antilles with 12 points and Elsa Williams contributed 11.
In boys JV action, Charlotte Amalie outlasted Bertha C. Bochulte, 26-19. Jabari Alexander led Charlotte Amalie with six points.
The JV Lady Hawks defeated defending champion Bertha. C. Boschulte by an unexpected margin, 35-8. Khadia Baptiste paced the Hawks high powered offense with eight points. Ranai Evans and Tinea Hanley both chipped in with six points. Sherrell George led BCB with four points.
