Seven Minus Seven Workshop Turns Trash Into Treasure

Seven Minus Seven will host a “Trash to Treasures” workshop at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10. The workshop will focus on adornments created from reclaimed, recycled and re-purposed materials. The public is invited to come explore the exciting process of creative reuse while learning the basics of jewelry making.
One person’s trash is another person’s treasures in this recycling art workshop where participants will learn to see artistic potential in discarded items. The aim is to generate awareness of and commitment to, reducing, reusing, and recycling by creating unique wearable art pieces with found objects. By preventing a material’s entry into the waste management system, we can save landfill space, conserve energy and save money. Before people recycle or dispose of anything, they could consider that a magazine can be shared, a jam jar can store leftovers and a bottle cap can become a work of art.
When someone decides to discard something reusable, think about donating items to those who could use them in a new way, such as Seven Minus Seven. Ignite your imagination and communicate the importance of a sustainable society with your jewelry creations. Participants will be making brooch pins, earrings, necklaces, bracelets and free form art pieces with found objects and recycled materials. Attendees should bring items they would like to use and/ or share with the group (some objects and tools will be provided). Suggested items to watch for and bring are: old jewelry, sea glass, shells, toys, metal washers, wire, zippers, buttons, key chains, bottle caps and tabs, small pieces of scrap fabrics, metals, plastics, etc.
