V.I. Answer Desk: Getting Copies of Birth Certificates

Source Reader Rosie Lolita Price writes from Florida that she’d like to know how to get a copy of her V.I. birth certificate.

It all starts with a phone call to the Health Department’s Vital Statistics Bureau. Upon receiving your request, the staff will send you an application.

Fill out the form, get it notarized, and return it with a copy of a valid photo identification and a postal money order for $15 to the Vital Statistics Bureau. The staff there will mail you back a copy of your birth certificate.

According to Health Department spokesman Eunice Bedminster, the same procedure applies to Death Certificates.

In her email, Price wondered if she could make her request online, but Bedminster said the department is still working on that capability.

Reach Vital Statistics on St. Thomas at 774-9000, extension 4685.

On St. Croix, the number is 773-1311, extension 3086.
