Police Chase and Apprehend Burglar

After a spirited foot chase, police on St. Thomas arrested 23-year-old Wagnel Florentino Tuesday morning and charged him with first-degree burglary, grand larceny and destruction of property.

According to a report from the V.I. Police Department, a 71-year-old woman was inside her Estate Thomas apartment Tuesday and saw a man attempting to break in. The suspect cut her screen door with a knife, approached the woman and snatched a gold chain from her neck before running out the house, police said.

Officers traveling to the scene saw the suspect, later identified as Florentino, running into the Paul M. Pearson Gardens housing community. Officers chased the suspect on foot, apprehended and arrested him.

Police said further arrests are anticipated in this case.
