An earthquake that registered 5.1 on the Richter Scale was felt in the Virgin Islands at 7:43 p.m. Friday. According to the Puerto Rico Seismic Network’s website, it was centered at 18.47 degrees north latitude and 66.17 degrees west longitude.
“So far no damage,” Javier Charon at the Puerto Rico Seismic Network said.
The National Earthquake Information Center in Golden, Col., put the earthquake at 5.1 on the Richter Scale with a location of 18.2 degrees north latitude and 66.1 degrees west longitude, seismologist Dale Grant said. It was located about 67 miles under the ocean floor.
The quake was centered about nine miles northwest of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
According to Charon and the National Tsunami Warning Center website, no tsunami warnings were listed for the Caribbean area.
Residents in the Virgin Islands reported dishes shaking in cabinets as well as shaking furniture.
