V.I. Fire Service officials are looking into the cause of a weekend house fire in Estate Anna’s Retreat that left one local resident dead.
Around 7:20 a.m. Sunday, two units from Lima Co. responded to calls about a structural fire in the residential St. Thomas neighborhood, and upon arriving at the scene found a house "fully engulfed" by flames and heavy smoke, according to a Government House release.
As crews began to extinguish the blaze, firefighters also helped care for a burn victim, who was treated by local emergency medical technicians and transported to Schneider Regional Medical Center.
According to the release, Fire Service officials learned Monday morning that the burn victim, whose name has not been released, had died of his injuries.
