Beach Advisory for Dec. 6-10, Public Warned About Frederiksted Public Beach

The Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) announces that the Division of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Beach Water Quality Monitoring Program, which evaluates weekly water quality at 43 popular swimming beaches throughout the territory, advises the public of the following:

DPNR-DEP performed water quality analysis at the 43 designated beaches throughout the Territory during the week of Dec. 6-10, 2010. The following beaches meet water quality standards and are safe for swimming or fishing:
**St. Croix**

Stony Ground

Dorsch
Protestant Cay
Davis Bay
Cramer Park
Grapetree Bay
Gentle Winds
Shoy’s
Pelican Cove (Comorant)
New Fort (Ft. Louise Augusta)
Sprat Hall
Halfpenny
Princess (Condo Row)
Buccaneer
Chenay Bay
Teague Bay
Rainbow
Cane Bay
Columbus Landing
**St. Thomas**
Water Bay
Sapphire
Magen’s Bay
Vessup Bay
Bolongo Bay
Frenchman’s Bay
Hull Bay
Morningstar
Brewer’s Bay
Limetree
Linquist
Coki Point
Bluebeards
Lindberg Bay
Secret Harbor
**St. John**
Oppenhiemer
Klain Bay
Hart Bay
Frank Bay
Great Cruz Bay
Johnson’s Bay
Chocolate Hole
Cruz Bay
However, the following beach does not meet the water quality standards for swimming or fishing.
**St. Croix**
Frederiksted Public Beach (First Target)
DPNR-DEP has investigated reports of a broken sewer line in the vicinity of the Lagoon Street Pump Station in Frederiksted, St. Croix. DPNR has found that raw sewage is currently being discharged into the near shore of Frederiksted Public Beach.
DPNR is strongly advising the public to avoid the Frederiksted Public Beacharea, especially children and adults with compromised immune systems. This area may contain contaminants or pollutants harmful to human health.
DPNR will continue to monitor the impacted areas and waters. For additional information regarding water quality call the Division of Environmental Protection at 773-1082 in St. Croix.
