WAPA Sending Out New Bills to Reflect Change in LEAC

New power bills that factor in recently approved changes in the Levelized Energy Adjustment Clause rates will soon be sent out, according to the V.I. Water and Power Authority.

Public Services Commission members Thursday approved a reduction in the electric LEAC, from the current $0.249 per kilowatt hour to $0.239. The new rate will shave $4.67 – or 2.7 percent – off the average bill of residential customers using 500 kilowatt hours per month, bringing it down to about $168.15.

The PSC voted to increase the water LEAC rate from the current $10.04 per thousand gallons to $11.68, adding about $3.93 to the average residential customer’s bill, bringing it up to about $75.04.

The new rates were made retroactive to Dec. 1 and will be in effect until March 31.

Prior to Thursday’s PSC meeting, however, WAPA had issued and mailed out approximately 13,000 water and electric bills that include the old rates.
