Monday Night Winners: Hummers, Set it Off and Anchor Dive

Kai Schjang locks on to one of six home run balls hit by the Hummers in game one.The Hummers, Set it Off, and Anchor Dive all powered their way to lopsided victories Monday night in the Bob Owen Slow pitch softball league at D.C. Canegata Ball Park.

The Hummers bombed the defending champions Seaborne Stealers 26-12, Set it Off beat the Dirty Dozen 15-9, and Anchor Dive Hammered the Cartel 23-10.

Hummers 26, Stealers 12

The Diageo Hummers took full advantage of the shorthanded defending champion Seaborne Stealers in game one Monday erupting for 24 run in the first three innings on their way to a 10-run mercy ruled 26-12 victory. With ace pitcher Sam Ramos unavailable, the champs had to depend on a couple of spot starters who had a lot of trouble finding the strike zone.

This led to a plethora of walks that set up several bases-loaded situations for the Hummers power hitters. It was the Hummers with 26 runs on 20 hits and two errors, while the Stealers finished with 12 runs on 12 hits and three errors. Roy Vialet got the win on the hill for the Hummers and Ronald Schjang, Sr. got the loss.

Top batters for the winners were Edgardo Sanes (4 for 4 with two home runs and six RBI), and Sylvester Blake (2 for 3 with two home runs and six RBIs). For the Stealers, Ronald Schjang Jr. was 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, and Raymond Cintron was 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs.

Set It Off 15, Dirty Dozen 9

In a battle of two of the league’s middle-of-the-pack teams, Set It Off beat the Dirty Dozen 15-9 in the night’s second contest. Set It Off finished with 15 runs on 13 hits, while the Dirty Dozed had nine runs on 11 hits while committing four errors. The winning pitcher was Angel Soto, and Jason Roberts got the loss. Top batters for Set It Off were Miguel Rodriguez (3 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs) and Jose Burgos (1 for 2 with a home run and four RBIs). For the Dirty Dozen, Jeff Elvings was 1 for 2 with a home run and one RBI.

Anchor Dive 23, Cartel 10

Anchor Dive Ace Edwin Sankitts scattered nine hits in pitching his team to lopsided 10-run mercy ruled, 23-10 shellacking of the Cartel in Monday’s nightcap. It was Anchor Dive with 23 runs on 18 hits and four error, while the Cartel scored 10 runs on nine hits and two errors. Dave McFarland got the loss for the Cartel. Top batters for the Cartel were Carmelo Torres (3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs) and Ulric Benjamin (4 for 4 with two RBIs). For the Cartel, Eddie Dunkirk was 2 for 3 with two home runs and two RBIs, and Luis Roman was 1 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs.
