The Island Green Building Association (IGBA) will hold a seminar on “Green Building – Solar Systems 101” on Thursday, Dec. 2, at the Marketplace on St. John, on the 3rd floor. There will be a social at 5 p.m. followed by a meeting from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Drinks will be available for a donation.
Doug White, architect and well-known guru of green building, will present an overview of how different systems operate and the pros/cons of each as well as today’s options. He will explain the difference between solar thermal and solar electric, net metering, off grid, battery back-up, and more — in layman’s terms. Rebates for solar systems are currently available. Anyone who has been thinking about solar upgrades but are not sure where to start should not miss this meeting. He will also discuss sustainably harvested wood and what is now available to build an island dream home. Those who plan to build, want to lower their WAPA bills or just live more green are invited to enjoy and learn from this free seminar.
