The V.I. Department of Education will pay 100 percent of tuition costs and associated fees for one three-credit course at the University of the Virgin Islands for the upcoming spring 2011 semester for territorial public school teachers, paraprofessionals and support staff (to include administrators). All of the courses offered to paraprofessionals will be at the undergraduate level, while courses offered to teachers and other non-teaching staff can be either at the graduate or undergraduate level, according to a press release from Education Acting Director of Human Resources Director Nicole Jacobs,
The sign-up period begins on Monday, Nov. 22 and continues through Friday, Dec. 3, between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Teachers must enroll in courses leading to certification or recertification, while paraprofessionals must enroll in education courses or other courses leading to an education degree. Other non-teaching staff must enroll in a course related to duties they perform at the department.
Jacobs said, “Due to the limited number of available courses, interested individuals are asked to act quickly as the selections will be made on a first-come, first-serve basis. No phone sign-ups will be allowed. Individuals are further reminded that course textbooks are their sole responsibility and reimbursement to the department will be required in the event they fail a course.”
