The Virgin Islands Youth Advocacy Coalition Inc. (VIYAC), formerly known as the V.I. Youth Activists Inc., announced that Genevieve Whitaker, president of VIYAC, has been invited to attend the IV World Congress on Child and Adolescent Rights, which will take place from Nov. 15-18 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Whitaker plans on leading a delegation of students to attend the important youth conference.
The primary objective is to provide an academic, scientific and professional exchange of ideas, as well as knowledge and experiences regarding the human rights of children and adolescents. At the same time, the congress encompasses a youth forum for the active and effective participation of adolescent delegates from multiple countries. It is an international event, and this is the first time it is being held in a United States jurisdiction. Organizers of the conference project that participants will come from over 25 countries comprising 1,000 adult participants, 150 adolescent delegates and 100 volunteers.
The best interest of children and adolescents, well‐being and development in the new world economic order, is the central theme of the conference.
