Workshop Provides Essentials of Supervisory Skills for Managers

Changes on the job and in life are inevitable. For individuals who have to take on the responsibility of leadership, it can be quite daunting. The University of the Virgin Islands – Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning (UVICELL) Center is offering a program to assist managers in gaining vital skills to successfully handle supervisory challenges. The training, First-Line Supervision, will be held 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10. On St. Croix, the session will be held at the Joseph A. Simpson Building, No. 23A Hospital Street in Frederiksted. On St. Thomas, the workshop will be held at the UVICELL Center on the St. Thomas Campus.
The workshop is part of the blended learning series being held in conjunction with the American Management Association (AMA). It is designed to prepare supervisors to develop the competencies required to achieve the organization’s goals at the frontline. Whether the individual is new to a leadership role or well-established, the workshop will provide participants with the skills needed to increase productivity, handle diversity and build a top-performing team in today’s rapidly changing environment. Participants will be given practical strategies to plan and conduct effective meetings, solve problems, motivate employees, manage people, deal with conflict and handle change in the organization.
For more information on the program or to register, call 693-1100 or visit UVICELL online at http://cell.uvi.edu
