Police on St. Thomas Investigating DOA

An unidentified Hispanic man was found dead at about 10:50 a.m. Sunday on the roadway leading to Contant Knolls, according to the V.I. Police Department.
Police on St. Thomas were dispatched to a reported “man down” in the area northeast of Vikings Corporations and responded along with emergency medical technicians. They found the man unresponsive, lying face down on the side of the roadway. The EMTs determined that the man had no vital signs.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Bureau, Forensic and Major Crime were called to the scene and are investigating this matter. The name of the deceased will be released upon confirmation on his identity, and notification of next of kin, the police said.
St. Thomas/St. John District Police Chief Rodney F. Querrard said the cause of death at this time could not be determined because there were no obvious signs of trauma (i.e., a gunshot or stab wound).
“The Medical Examiner will have to be the determining factor, along with the findings and reports of the detectives assigned to this investigation,” Querrard said. “It is a strong possibility that this death was accidental or even health related, but again, this will have to be determined after all involved completes their role in this investigation.”

Querrard is asking for anyone having information on this matter to call Sgt. Diana Martinez, Supervisor of the Major Crime Unit at 340-642-8449, 340-715-5544, 340-715-5545 or 340-715-5546.
