Burglary Suspect Shot by Police in Garden Street/Long Path

One man was shot in the leg by police and other suspects were being sought Wednesday after reports of a burglary in the Garden Street/Long Path area.
According to a report from the V.I Police Department, at about 7:20 a.m. Wednesday a man from the area called 911 and reported a burglary had taken place at his home. While officers were en route to the location, the man called back and said he would make the report later, because he was leaving his residence.
At approximately 9 a.m. another person called 911 and reported that there was a burglary in-progress at a residence in the same vicinity as the earlier caller. Patrol officers, detectives and K-9 officers from the V.I. Police Department, along with other enforcement officers converged on the area.
Upon approaching the area, suspects were seen running away and shots were fired. One of the suspects, who was shot in the left leg by police, was found to have a .38 caliber revolver on his person.
The suspect, Alfie Malone, 20, of Altona, was transported to Schneider Regional Medical Center to be treated for his injury.
It was confirmed that there was a burglary at the residence in question.
Malone is being charged with third-degree burglary and possession of an unlicensed firearm. Other charges will be forthcoming, according to police. Officers combed the area for the other suspects but were unsuccessful. The investigation is ongoing.
District Police Chief Rodney F. Querrard Sr. is asking for anyone residing in the Garden Street/Long Path area, or who may have been in the area at the time and saw something related to the incident to call the Criminal Investigations Bureau at 340-715-5522, 340-715-5516 or 340-714-9807.
