Public Schools Closed, Government Open

Weather-related problems at at least three schools in each district plus the potential for additional rainfall throughout the day mean all public schools across the territory will be closed Thursday.
However, Government House announced at around 6 a.m. that all government workers must report to work.
All school maintenance and custodial staff as well as school administrators should report to work.
On Wednesday, all schools and the government were closed.
Meteorologist Walter Snell at the National Weather Service in San Juan said Subtropical Storm Otto continues to bring thunderstorms and showers to the area.
“At least for the next 24 to 36 hours,” he said.
He expects sustained winds of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts reaching 35 mph or higher.
Snell “hopes” that Saturday will be better, but it will continue to rain.
“Sunday may see a dry spot but there will still be some scattered showers next week,” he said.
At 5 a.m., Otto’s center was located 235 miles northeast of Grand Turk Island.
At Weather Station Zephyr, located at Ajax Peak on St. John, .56 inches of rain fell between midnight and 6:30 a.m. Thursday. This brings the total since Tuesday to 6.14 inches.
