Culinary Students To Cook Up Gourmet Luncheons at Garden

Those who like supporting local students and eating good food in pleasant surroundings take note: St. Croix culinary students will be serving up a gourmet luncheon Oct. 6 and again Oct. 20 at the St. Georges Botanical Garden.

At the annual St. Croix Educational Complex Image Awards, Government House ceremonies, fundraising banquets and many other meetings and gatherings, students from the St. Croix Career and Technical Education Center’s culinary program have wowed diners not just with well-made, delicious and attractive food but with the poise and professionalism of their service. Many of the program’s past students have already gone on to further their education at culinary schools around the nation or have pursued hospitality careers in other ways.

Wednesday and again two weeks later, those same up and coming Crucian culinary artisans will serve up a midday feast to diners surrounded by lush greenery in the garden’s pavilion. The cost is $20, but St. Georges Botanical Garden members get in for $15. There is a set menu, so have a peak at the offerings below and if it sounds appealing, call 692-2874 to make your reservations.

Lunch at the Garden menu:
To start:
Umami the Salad: micro greens served in a grapefruit basket with grape tomatoes, queso blanco, almonds and citrus vinaigrette
Main Course:
Shaking Bull: coffee crusted, braised short ribs over Chorizo, vanilla and cinnamon flavored polenta, garnished with baby carrots
Dessert:
Coconut and green pepper flan
