Police Make Arrest in Frederiksted Stabbing

A dispute between roommates resulted in a stabbing incident in which one of the two men, 49-year-old Miguel Rivera, aka Miguel Melendez, was arrested Sunday morning and charged with third-degree assault.
According to police, the incident took place at the Marley Homes in Frederiksted. Rivera was arrested at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
Rivera and the victim shared an apartment with their girlfriends, the police said. The two men reportedly got into a verbal altercation that escalated to a physical fight, and Rivera stabbed the victim once in the upper body. He also cut the victim’s right arm, police said.
The girlfriends of the suspect and victim attempted to stop the fight and were cut on their hands and arms. Rivera also was cut on his side and abdomen during the fight.
Rivera was held on a $25,000 bail and remanded to the custody of the Golden Grove Correctional Facility.
