Christensen Says Major League Baseball Playoffs Will Air in V.I.

Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen has received word that Major League Baseball (MLB) and Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) have reached an agreement to lift the blackout of division baseball playoff games to the U.S. Virgin Islands. Last year, Congresswoman Christensen appealed to TBS to lift the blackout of division baseball playoff games to the territory. At the time, the contract between TBS and MLB did not include broadcasting rights to the Caribbean, and the territory’s baseball fans could not view the games.

Christensen wrote and met with Turner Broadcasting Company and the Office of the Commissioner of Baseball at the beginning of the year, urging them to once again lift the post-season blackout as they did last year.
“My office received word over the phone that an agreement was reached, and while we are awaiting official word in writing, we are pleased to hear that blackout is again lifted,” said the congresswoman. “Our position has always been that while we are located in the Caribbean, we are indeed part of the United States and should be afforded the right to view the games.”
