$10K Match Race Highlights Pre-Labor Day Warmup

The horses will be off and running this Sunday at the Randall “Doc’ James Racetrack on a card that is being billed as TRAXCO’s pre-Labor Day warm up. It is the last race before the Labor Day races which many expects to see the best of the best in thoroughbreds from across the territory and possibly the BVI.

A $10,000 match race between Bubba Bates Prototype (116) and Groomsman (116) out of Grove Place will be one of Sunday’s showcase races. This race, the seventh on the card, will match two of the quickest horses on St. Croix in a five furlongs thriller that could possibly see a new track record for that distance when it is all said and done. Prototype has two out of four starts on the island and Groomsman is 1 for 2.

The co-feature race on the card is the $4000.00 eight race. In this one Temo’s Dream will try to find the winner’s circle for the first time after coming up just short in his debut last race day. He will be carrying a top weight of 120 pounds while stable mate Cherokee Law will carry the second highest weight with 118. The other entries in the race are Limey (116), the always trying Black Jack Bob (114), Daddy Eddie (114), and Heats on Fire (114).

The seven furlongs fifth race for mares and fillies at a distance should also be a good one as St. Croix top mares and fillies duke it out for the island’s bragging rights as the best mare or filly. Cinque Terre, carrying a top weight of 119 pounds, has beaten this field on more than one occasion, but she lost to arguably St. Croix hottest mare on the tract, Leggy Blonde (117), her last time out. Leggy Blonde has won her last three starts and will be looking to continue her winning streak. Right there also should be speedsters WonderifIamspecial (118) and Destiny Arrival (114). These two shoud vie for the lead early. Big Kate (114) who was tearing up the track earlier in the year has cooled off but will be looking to regain that form in this race.
