The Department of Housing Parks and Recreation U15 and U18 basketball Championships continued Thursday night at the D.C. Canegata Basketball Court with two games played. In game one, in the U15 division, Working Together tied their two of three finals series with the Lakers at one game apiece with a hard-fought 43-38 victory. In the U18 division, the senior Working Together squad and Mo Fire played game one of their best of three finals with Working Together coming away with a nine point victory, 59-50, to go up 1-0 in the series.
U15 Division
Working Together 43, Lakers 38
Working Together evened their best of three finals on Thursday with a 43-38 victory over the Lakers. Game three next Tuesday will decide the 2010 champs. Working Together came out, from the word go, an inspired team and they did not let up until the final whistle against a good Lakers team. The Lakers did not win any of the four quarters but stayed close and was never out of contention. Working Together got 11 points apiece from Joshua Hernandez and Nayibo Gonzalez and seven points from Wayne Lowry. For the Lakers it was Terrel Thomas showing the way with a game high 20 points while teammate Razeem Huggins netted 11 in the loss.
U18 Division
Working Together 59, Mo Fire 50
In game two on Thursday the senior Working Together squad looking to make the HP&R 2010 Basketball championships an all Working Together affair, beat Mo Fire 59-50 to take a 1-0 series lead and will go into next Tuesday’s contest looking for the sweep. Shamori Francis led the winners with a game-high 17 points, while teammates Omari Brooks and Kevin Huges dropped in 16 and nine points respectively. Kelvin Thomas led three Mo Fire players in double figures with 12 points, Amari Krigger scored 11 and Kyle Greenidge added 10.
