Fire Flattens Pavers, Injectables Rout Rebels

Fire got back on the winning track with a 9-2 victory over the Public Works Pavers Thursday night in the Governmental and Industrial Softball League, while the Injectables of Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital continued their winning ways with a 21-8 shellacking of the Housing Parks and Recreation Rebels at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park.

Fire 9, Pavers 2

The league-leading Fire Department, after a couple of losses, churned out a 9-2 victory over the Public Works Pavers, who after wallowing at the bottom of the league for most of the season had put a couple of victories together and were looking to turn their season around. But they were brought back to reality in the night’s opening contest.

It was Fire with nine runs on 13 hits and three errors while the Pavers finished with two runs on four hits. The winning pitcher was David Clarke, and Gabriel Jagrup got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Clarke (3 for 3 with four RBIs) and Camille Christian (2 for 3). For Fire, Julio Carmona was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Jagrup was 2 for 3.

Injectables 21, Rebels 8

In game two, Guido Schjang powered the league’s hottest team, the Luis Hospital Injectables, to a 21-8 rout of the Housing Parks and Recreation Rebels. Schjang was 4 for 4 with two homers and eight RBIs to lead his team offensively. It was the Injectables with 21 runs on 18 hits while the Rebeld scored eight runs on eight hits. The winning pitcher was Julio Perez while Moises Melendez got the loss for the Rebels. Also contributing to the Injectables offensive outburst was Dennis Brow (3 for 5 with a home run and four RBIs) and Real Sackey (3 for 5 with four RBI). For the Rebels, Sylvester Blake was 3 for 3 with three RBI and Khalid Matthews was 1 for 1 with two RBIs.
