Temporary Lane Closure in Long Bay Starts Friday

Starting Friday, the left lane running west in front of Yacht Haven Grande — from Mandela Circle to the intersection of Veterans Drive and Beltjen Road — will be temporarily closed for roadwork.
Public Works Commissioner Darryl Smalls said Wednesday the lane will be clearly marked with barricades and "lane-channeling devices" until the Long Bay area project is complete. The rest of the lanes will remain the same, he added.
Phase one of the road excavation — which Smalls said is the fourth road project funded in the territory by federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act money — will enhance the bus turnoff, the entrance to Yacht Haven Grande and the Long Bay road areas.
The second phase will focus on the road from Yacht Haven to the pan yard, and is expected take six weeks to complete.
Residents are being urged to seek alternative routes to avoid delays.
