The Warriors, Anchor Dive and the Seaborne Stealers were the Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball League’s Monday night winners at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park. The Warriors edged the Dirty Dozen 8-4, Anchor Dive outslugged Softball Inc. 28-23, and the Seaborne Stealers, continuing to score runs in bunches, crushed Speak the Word Ministries, 25-9.
Warriors 8, Dirty Dozen 4
The Warriors handed the Dirty Dozen their first loss of the season in game one Monday night by a score of 8-4. It was the Warriors with eight runs on 15 hits and two errors, while the Dirty Dozen finished with four runs on 12 hits and three errors. Angel Soto got the win on the hill for the Warriors with Denny Denton getting the loss. Top batters for the Warriors were Miguel Rodriguez and Samuel Pierre, both 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs. For the Dirty Dozen, Jason Helema was 2-for-3 with a home run and one RBI, and Corey Moore was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Anchor Dive 28, Softball Inc. 23
In game two, Anchor Dive, led by a career night from Danny Rodriquez, surprised Softball Inc 28-23 in a slugfest. Rodriguez blasted three home runs and went 5-for-5 with 12 RBIs on the night in leading Anchor Dive to the 28-23victory. It was Anchor Dive with 28 runs on 20 hits and two errors, while Softball Inc. finished with 23 runs on 18 hits and four errors. The winning pitcher was Edwins Sankitts, and Dale Harris got the loss. Apart from Rodriguez, Danny Rosa chipped in by going 5-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs for Anchor Dive. For Softball Inc., Antonio Cruz was 5-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs, and Angel Guzman was 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs.
Stealers 25, Speak the Word 9
The Seaborne Stealers continued to look like world beaters as they crushed yet another opponent 25-9. This time it was Speak the Word feeling the wrath of the former champs. Led by their version of the bash brothers, Freddie and Owen Pimentel, the Stealers pounded out 19 hits in amassing their 25 runs while committing just two errors. Speak the Word had 12 hits but could only muster nine runs against winning pitcher and Stealers’ ace Samuel Ramos. Gabriel Jagrup got the loss for STW. Top batters for the Stealers were Owen Pimentel with two home runs and seven RBIs, and brother Freddie, 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs. For STW, Norbert Pickering and Sylvester McIntosh were both 3-for-3 with one RBI.
