Public Invited to Opening of Domestic Violence Conference

The National Network to End Domestic Violence is hosting a four-day conference, beginning 9 a.m. Monday at Marriott Frenchman’s Reef Beach Resort on St. Thomas.

Along with members of each state and territorial coalition against domestic violence, the list of participants for the event includes Gov. John deJongh Jr., Delegate Donna M. Christensen, law enforcement officials, judges, domestic violence experts from across the country and survivors of abuse.

The public is invited to attend the conference opening on Monday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Monday’s lineup features panel discussions on topics ranging from what the criminal justice system can do to beef up its response to incidents of domestic violence to what the community can also do to help. Featured speakers in these discussions include representatives from local agencies such as the Family Resource Center and the Women’s Coalition of St. Croix, along with national agencies such as the Missouri Police Department and the Maryland Human Resources Department.

The National Network to End Domestic Violence is in 56 different states and territories, and works closely with each to understand the needs of domestic violence victims and localized service programs, according to a recent news release.
