Day of Remembrance and Healing for the Community Planned for November 2

Nov. 2, known locally as All Souls Day and D. Hamilton Jackson Day, has been targeted as a “Day of Remembrance and Healing for the Community.” Over the past several years, the Virgin Islands community has experienced a great loss of lives to street and domestic violence, and the decline of family and community values as a result of social and spiritual turmoil. In an effort to repair the loss of the community’s traditional spiritual values, We From UpstreetInc. and Kidscope Inc. in collaboration with the V.I. Cultural Heritage Institute and other communitybased organizations invite the entire community — families, religious institutions, civic/cultural organizations and all interested individuals — to join in a day of prayer, reflection and remembrance for the loss of lives endured over the years to senseless violence and to begin the process of healing for the entire V.I. community.

The program will take commence with a prayer vigil from noon to 4 p.m. Participants will be asked to offer prayers of atonement and healing around the perimeters of the Lionel Roberts Stadium and the Winston Raymo Center. An open microphone and memorial station will be setup on the basketball court of the Raymo Center for those who would like to give a message or a tribute. From 4-6 p.m., a candlelight vigil will be conducted on the court. The community may bring flowers, candles and other mementos in remembrance of fallen victims.
If you wish to participate in this healing event or need additional information, call and register by contacting Myron Jackson at 777-1012 or Dilsa Capdeville at 714-1012.
