The Department of Labor and the Virgin Islands Center for Excellence on Developmental Disabilities (VIUCEDD) have teamed up in recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month to present a workshop entitled “Employment and Disability.” During the month of October, four workshops that are designed to educate employers and persons with disabilities about their rights and responsibilities in the workplace will offered, according to a press release from Commissioner of Labor Albert Bryan Jr. The schedule for St. Croix is Monday, Oct. 26, in the VIUCEDD conference room. Employers will meet from 9-11 a.m. and persons with disabilities will meet from 1-3 p.m.
If an employer is considering hiring persons with disabilities or would like to gain a better understanding of “reasonable accommodation” and how to stay in compliance with EEOC and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, this is the workshop for him or her. Would you like to learn how you can qualify for a tax break to help off-set the cost of accommodations? To find out more about these topics, employers are encouraged to attend this free workshop. If you are a person with a disability and are looking for work, you need to know your rights. So attend the workshop nearest you.
