R. Richards Elementary School Celebrates Red Ribbon Week

Ricardo Richards Elementary School will join many schools throughout the Virgin Islands and the nation in the celebration of Red Ribbon Week, Oct. 23 -30. “Schools throughout the territory and the nation will be focused on activities that emphasize the intolerance to the illegal use of tobacco, alcohol and other dangerous drugs during the annual observance,” said Principal Colleen Williams.

Activities planned in observance of Red Ribbon Week at the school include:
Reach Out and Be Healthy and Drug-Free DayTuesday, Oct. 27
Teachers, students, parents and staff members will participate in a 10-minute exercise activity on the school’s campus with primary students and teachers that will assemble at 10:15 a.m., and intermediate students and teachers at 12:15 p.m.
Scare Drugs Away Step Show – Thursday, Oct. 29
This event will feature intermediate classes and will begin at 12:45 p.m.
Good Character Costume ParadeFriday, Oct. 30
This event features the primary classes. Students will dress in costumes depicting a fantasy or reality hero that demonstrates good character against drugs and will begin at 12:35 p.m.
During the week, Red Ribbon Week banners will be strategically placed throughout the school’s campus and the nearby Flamboyant Gardens properties by the Drug-Free School Team.
