STAR Gives Complete List of Founders Day 5K Finishers

Thirty walkers and runners toed the line for the St. Thomas Association of Roadrunners’ 27th annual Founders Day Run on Oct. 11. The 5-kilometer race went from St. Christian Parking lot to the UVI Sports & Fitness Center.

In spite of the elevated temperatures at race time, this year’s overall times were superior to last year’s times. Former champions Jessica Chung and Ruth Ann David weren’t there to challenge Mary Vargo of St. John, who posted a very good time of 22:32 to finish as the first female overall, looking as if she had a lot left. Among the female youth, 13-year-old Keshema Fleming was unchallenged in finishing in 24:46. The only youth female, 11-year-old Kahira Stevens, competed in the walking division.
Kyron Correa continued his winning ways, defeating an extended challenge from Nicholas Thomas to finish in 19:09, 21 seconds ahead of the UVI runner Sean Steele (20:55) also representing UVI, who finished third overall and first in the youth division. Maurice Kurg led all non-teenagers to finish third in the open division, fourth overall. Athenia Roach (22:13) and Austin Pippen (23:20) finished second and third respectively among male youth.
