Antilles School Hosts Representatives of Universities at College Fair and Panel Discussion

Antilles School will host representatives from colleges and universities for a morning college fair and an evening panel discussion. The events are open to students and parents from all schools on St. Thomas and St. John. Those scheduled to attend will include: Eckerd College, Florida Institute of Technology, High Point University, Johnson C. Smith University, Johnson and Wales University, Rider University, University of Rochester, St. Thomas University, University of South Florida, University of Tampa and the University of the Virgin Islands.
The morning fair will take place from 9:30-11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 15, in the MCM Center; the evening panel discussion will take place from 7-8:30 p.m., in Prior Jollek Hall. The purpose of the fair will be for students, counselors and parents to meet representatives and learn more about individual institutions. The evening panel discussion will begin with a chance for Denison University, a later arrival, to speak briefly about its program and location, followed by brief talks on the virtues of small, medium and large institutions, as well as thoughts on the “do’s and don’ts” of applying online, writing personal statements and essays, and applying for financial aid. Then there will be a chance for general questions and answers, followed by the chance for parents to meet and greet individual college representatives and follow up on questions one-on-one.
Also, at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 16, on the 2nd floor of the Kimelman Library, Antilles School will host a representative from Morehouse College. Morehouse is the all-male alma mater of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and many other highly accomplished men of African heritage. Last year’s visits to St. Thomas high schools led to the matriculation of a number of young men from the island. Morehouse, located in Atlanta, Georgia, across the street from sister school Spelman College as well as nearby Clark Atlanta University, is a superb opportunity for young men in the V.I. community.
