St. Croix Schools Observe National Grandparents Day

In observance of Grandparents Day, Sunday, Sept. 13, St. Croix district public schools will join school districts and communities nationwide in celebrating elders and bridging the gap between generations. District Director of School and Community Relations Janet Brow said, “One of the greatest gifts a child can have is an opportunity to spend time experiencing the nurturing and love of a grandparent. Grandparents are a source of years of interesting experiences, anecdotes and valuable information. This transmission of history to our young people ensures the preservation of our rich cultural heritage.”

In championing the cause of the lonely elderly, Brow added, “As we observe Grandparents Day, each of us ought not to forget those persons who are unable to be with their families or those who have no families. Every effort must be made to include the elderly in the mainstream through fostering respect, patience and understanding for them, sharing with them through cards, community projects and visits at all times and not just during the holidays.
“The celebration of Grandparents Day honors our grand individuals, who as matriarchs and patriarchs provided for their families and many times continue to assist in the care of their children’s families. We, at the district, urge the entire community to treat a grandparent on Sept. 13 and encourage the community’s grandparents to visit public schools on Monday, Sept. 14, to inspire and share stories with our youth.”
