Fish Market Shooting Suspect Arrested

Gary MortonSt. Croix Police arrested 32-year-old Gary C. Morton Thursday and charged him in connection with a Monday shooting Monday in the vicinity of the Frederiksted Fish Market that left a 46-year-old man hospitalized.
Morton was charged with reckless endangerment in the first degree, assault in the first degree, possession of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime and failure to report ammunition.
He was arrested on a warrant issued Wednesday by the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands. The arrest took place at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Morton was identified as the person who fired two shots toward the victim, striking him twice in the abdomen. Police said the suspect and the victim had a disagreement over a family situation. He is being held on a $100,000 bail and was remanded to the custody of the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility.
