Education Funds Costs of Praxis II Exam for Teachers

The Virgin Islands Department of Education, in keeping with its commitment to increase the number of certified and highly qualified teachers throughout the territory, advises all territorial public school teachers that the department will pay the test costs and associated fees for the scheduled September 12th, paper-and-pencil administration of the Praxis II Exam.

Education’s Human Resources Director Karen Blyden said, “Elementary K-6 teachers who did not participate in HOUSSE (High Objective Uniformed State Standard Evaluation) and secondary teachers who are out of content area must take and pass the Praxis II Exam for certification and highly qualified status.” The following Praxis II Exams have been validated by Education: Elementary Education (0014),Special Education (0353), Science (0435), Reading (0201), Mathematics (0061), English (0041) and ESL (0360).
Registration for the exam will take place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., on Thursday, Aug. 6 through Tuesday Aug. 11, at the Human Resources Offices located at 1834 Kongens Gade, St. Thomas, and at the Vitraco Mall, Orange Grove, St. Croix.“Due to the limited number of available slots, interested individuals are asked to act quickly as the selections will be made on a first-come, first- serve basis. No phone sign-ups will be allowed,” Blyden added.
