A Sense of Community Is Needed

Dear Source:

This article states very clearly the biggest problem on St. Thomas and to a lesser extent St. John and St. Croix. The rights of the individual are greater than the rights of the community. I have traveled all over the world and this is the only place that I have ever experienced this phenomena. It is encouraged and perpetuated by the politicians and the family structure. It is the main reason that most of the capable young people go to the States for an education and never return, except maybe to retire.
This is one of the most beautiful places in the world, it has a great tourism potential and unlimited opportunity for Federal Grants and it really could be America’s Paradise. Sadly it will continue to have a high level of poverty, crime and lack of opportunity for those "barn here" as long as this attitude is allowed and encouraged by the leaders of this community.
