Corrections Cuffs Injectables, Public Works Douses Fire

June 19, 2009 — The Department of Corrections and the Public Works Pavers were Thursday’s winners in the Governmental and Industrial Coed Softball league at the Renholdt Jackson Sport Complex in Estate Whim. Corrections handcuffed the Juan Luis Hospital Injectables, 18-8, while Public Works put out Fire 12-5 behind two grand slams, an eight-RBI night from Juan Burgos.

Corrections 18, Injectables 8
In game one on Thursday, the Corrections Department unleashed a 20-hit attack to pummel the Juan Luis Hospital Injectables into submission by a score of 18-8. It was Corrections with 18 runs on 20 hits and two errors while the Injectables had eight runs on eight hits and three errors. Max Velasquez got the win on the hill for Corrections while Otilio Geron took the loss for the Injectables. Top batters for the winners were Carlos Morales 3 for 3, with a home run and six RBIs, Velasquez 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs and David Clark 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. For the Injectables, Kenny Milligan was 2 for 2 with two RBIs, Freddie Pimentel 2 for 2 with an RBI, and Raymond Cintron went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs.
Public Works 12, Fire 5
Juan Burgos blasted two grand slam home runs for eight RBIs to power the Public Works Department Pavers by the Fire Department, 12-5. It was the Pavers with 12 runs on 12 hits with four errors, while Fire finished with five runs on seven hits and three errors. Angel Soto was the winning pitcher while Paul Christian got the loss. Top hitters for the Pavers were Burgos, 3 for 4 with two grand slams and eight RBIs, Carmelo Torres was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Debra Hazel was 2 for 2. For the losing team, Jesus Saldana was 1 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Dwayne Thomas was 1 for 1.
