VITEMA Holds Hurricane Preparedness Expo

June 15, 2009 – The Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency will host its first Hurricane Preparedness Expo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Friday, June 19, at the Sunny Isles Shopping Center's parking area south of Wendy's Restaurant, on St. Croix.
A short program, set to begin at 10 a.m., will feature a brief presentation from Rafael Mojica of the National Weather Service. There will also be comments from FEMA representative Sonny Beauchamp.
The Expo will kick off VITEMA's intensified efforts to educate the community about how to prepare and be ready in the event disaster strikes. Several government agencies, nonprofit organizations and private sector businesses will have information and equipment on display.
This is the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Hugo, which swept through the territory on Sept. 17, 1989, leaving devastation in its wake. This year's theme is "Through Our Past We Strengthen Our Future."
For more information, contact VITEMA Deputy Director Jacqueline Heyliger at 773-2244.
