Injectables Break Through for First Win of Season

June 3, 2009 — The Juan Luis Hospital Injectables were lone winless team in the Governmental and Industrial Coed softball league, but they finally broke through Tuesday night with a 12-4 victory over the Public Works Department’s Pavers.
Injectables ace, Otilio Gron, scattered seven hits in pitching his squad to their first win of the season. Roman Cruz got the loss for the Pavers. This once proud Injectables franchise has found the goings tough this season mostly due to the unavailability of its full squad for any one game. However, centerfielder Real Sackey said he looked over the schedule thoroughly and penciled this game against the Pavers as the one that the Injectables had the greatest chance of winning.
Luis Roman two-run single in the top of the first inning got the Pavers on the board right away. The Injectables answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by Guido Schjang, an RBI single by Eustace Davis and a sacrifice by Dennis Brow to take a 3-2 lead after one inning of play.
The Pavers knotted the score at 3-all in the top of the second on Lydia Rivera’s RBI ground out, but the Injectables were equal to the task as they again broke the tie game on an RBI single by Gron in the bottom of the inning to again go up by a run.
After the Pavers failed to score in the top of the third the Injectables extended the lead to four runs in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs on a solo blast by Sacky, and RBI singles by Gron and Kenesha Woodrup for a 7-3 lead after three completed innings.
The Pavers plated their final run of the game in the top of the fourth, unearned run, to trail 7-4, but again the Injectables responded. They answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning on a solo home run by Roger Moore and an RBI single by Brow for a 9-4 lead.
After a scoreless fifth inning the Injectables completed the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to lead by eight runs at 12-4. They scored three run on a two-run single by Freddie Pimentel and a bases loaded walk drawn by Schjang. The Pavers went quietly in the top of the seventh inning.
Top batters for the Injectables were Sackey, 4 for 4 with a home run and one RBI, and Schjang and Pimentel were both 2 for 3 with two RBIs. For the Pavers Roman was 1 for 3 with two RBIs and Ronald Roberts was 2 for 2.
