Hovensa Names New President

May 27, 2009 — Donald Huffman is spending a busy week in orientation, familiarizing himself with the many aspects of St. Croix's Hovensa refinery prior to taking over as president of the company effective Monday, June 1.
Huffman was appointed president and chief operating officer of the St. Croix based petroleum company by Hovensa's executive committee. He will replace Lawrence J. Kuppfer, who is retiring after six years as president of Hovensa and 28 years in the oil industry.
Huffman was recently plant manager of a 265,000-barrel-a-day ConocoPhillips refinery in Houston, a position he assumed in 2007 after five years as maintenance and reliability manager of a 310,000-barrel-a-day ConocoPhillips refinery near St. Louis. Prior to that he was commercial/naptha supply director for Phillips Petroleum after holding various positions, including engineering, economics, planning and operations, with the company starting in 1986.
Huffman has a bachelor of science degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Tulsa.
Alex Moorhead, who handles government affairs and community relations for Hovensa, said the new president is spending the week "getting up to speed" on the company's business.
