James Melvin Gumbs Dies at 80

May 13, 2009 – James Melvin Gumbs, also known as "Uncle," "Melo" or "Cap," of Lorraine Village, died on May 7, at the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital.
He is survived by his spouse, Norma Gumbs; daughters: Diane, Alicia, Judith, Arlene and Eulin Gumbs, Eugenie and Blondell and Jermaine Gumbs-Dempstin; stepdaughter, Sandra; sons: Knellar and Mervin Gumbs; grandchildren: Josette, Shayon, Jenell, Lucina, Regional, Shamarie, Jared, Jerron, Clilton, Nisa, Kerrien, Denise, Kandia, Jasmine, Shanice, Sharese, Omarie, LaTisha and Donnell; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by son-in-law, Lambert Dempstin; sisters-in-law: Neldeen Techeiron, Jean Byam, Eileen Morris, Felicy Bradford, Muriel Cassell, Ronnie Simon and Carolie Browne; brothers-in-law: Pajet Simon, Patrick and Ickford Simon, Elvin Byam and Cyril Techeira; and other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
There will be a viewing at 9 a.m. and a funeral service at 10 a.m., on Saturday, May 16, at the Friedensfeld Moravian Church. Interment will follow at the Kingshill Cemetery.
