Special Previews of Ken Burns' New Film to Be Shown

Two previews will be shown of Emmy Award Winner Ken Burns' new film, "The National Parks: America’s Best Idea,” They are scheduled for 7 p.m., Friday, May 8, at Cinnamon Bay Campground Amphitheater, and at 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 13, at The Westin St. John Ballroom. The preview is approximately one hour.
The documentary is a six-episode film that tells an epic story spanning a century and a half of America's history and ranges from one corner of the country to the other. It is the story of the most magnificent places in the country that belong to everyone for all time. It chronicles that idea from its first expression in the mid-1800s through the late 1990s.
The story of the national parks is the story of people from every conceivable background: rich and poor; famous and unknown; soldiers and scientists; natives and newcomers; idealists, artists and entrepreneurs. It is the story of people who were and are willing to devote themselves to saving some precious portion of the land they love and in so doing remind their fellow citizens of the full meaning of democracy.
Join representatives of the Friends of Virgin Islands National Park, WTJX Channel 12, the National Parks Conservation Association, National Park staff and fellow national park enthusiasts for a special preview of the next extraordinary documentary series by Ken Burns and a discussion of national park issues.
