AWC Holds Poster Awards Ceremony

May 8, 2009 – The 2009 "Kindness Is Contagious" poster-contest awards ceremony, which is promoted by the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center (AWC), will be held on at 4 p.m., Thursday, May 14, at the Caribbean Community Theater. The contest was open to grades K-12 students on St. Croix, who were asked to put their compassion into action and sketch examples of responsible pet ownership.
The humane education division of AWC makes presentations throughout the year to all schools on St. Croix (public and private) about responsible pet care, and stopping animal abuse and neglect.
"The majority of animals brought to AWC are owned, not strays, and more often than not these animals are diseased because they have never received vet care," said Gretchen Sherrill, shelter coordinator. "The humane education staff aims to reach the St. Croix community via our youth to change pet owner behavior."
For more information about the contest or the humane education program, contact coordinator Therese Donarski at 778-1650.
